A cousin of NFL star James Lofton, the brother of Kevin Bass and uncle of Garrett Bass and Justin Bass, Richard Bass spent two years as a minor league outfielder. He hit .360/~.489/.568 with 8 steals in 9 tries for the 1976 Boise A's and would have ranked second in the Northwest League in batting average had he played enough to qualify. In '77, Bass only batted .220/~.297/.286 for the Pompano Beach Cubs to conclude his career.
