Rich Nye was a promising lefthanded pitcher who won 13 games with the Chicago Cubs in 1967. He pitched one career complete game shutout. It was on May 16, 1968 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He gave up 6 hits, walked 2 and struck out 7. The losing pitcher was future Hall of Famer Don Sutton.
- After his baseball career was ended by injuries, he went on to study veterninary medicine at the University of Illinois. Nye graduated in 1976 and is currently a practicing veterinarian in the Chicago suburbs.
