Although normally a reliever, Rich Hinton did pitch two complete games in his major league career, both in 1978 as a member of the Chicago White Sox. On September 12, he won against the Minnesota Twins giving up 7 hits, 1 earned run, walking 7 and striking out 2. On September 22, he lost against the California Angels despite the complete game; he gave up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 3 and struck out 7. Frank Tanana was the winner for the Angels that day.

His son, Robert Hinton, has played professionally since 2004.
