Regina is the provincial capital of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located on the Wascana River in the southern part of the province, it is 160 miles south-east of Saskatoon, SK. The city was originally called Pile of Bones, but its name was changed to Regina in 1882, in honor of Queen Victoria, as political leaders considered that the town's name did not project the requisite image for a budding territorial capital and metropolis of the Prairies.
