[edit] Biographical Information

Red Morgan found himself playing 88 games at third base for the 1906 Boston Americans. The long-time third baseman for the team, Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins, played only 37 games that year, and was presumably injured the rest of the season. Collins was also the manager, and continued to manage the team.

John Godwin was also tried at third base, but hit only .187.

Morgan, who was 22, had been at Georgetown University from 1902-1906, and made his debut in the majors on June 20. While his numbers were below average, they look better when one considers that the team as a whole hit .237 and slugged .304.

Although Collins was no longer the manager in 1907, he got his old job back at third base. Neither Godwin nor Morgan ever played again in the majors.
