The younger brother of longtime big leaguer Ray Hayworth, catcher Red Hayworth made the majors in 1944 as the regular catcher for the St. Louis Browns. He played in all six games of that year's World Series. Known for his defensive skills, he hit .222 with just 1 homer in his two seasons in the major leagues. After his playing career ended, he was a minor league manager and scout.
Red's main teammates were Vern Stephens, Milt Byrnes and George McQuinn.
Hayworth was one of the players who jumped to the Mexican League in 1946, signing a three-year contract worth $12,500 a season. Hayworth was assigned to the team in Torreon and he batted .261.
