Raywendley van Gurp made his pro debut in 2007 with the VSL Mets, going 1 for 13. In 2008, he hit .275/.343/.351 for the same club and stole 29 bases in 41 tries. He was 8 steals behind Venezuelan Summer League leader Henry Henry. Van Gurp came stateside with the 2009 GCL Mets and batted .252/.361/.305 with 16 swipes in 21 attempts. The second baseman drew 27 walks in 45 games. He then joined the Netherlands Antilles for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
