[edit] Biographical Information

Ray Nichting played two seasons in the minors for the Fitzgerald Pioneers. He hit .275 with one HR and 31 RBI in 1951. In 1952, he batted .309/~.444/.455 with 109 walks, 84 runs and 10 triples. He was second in the Georgia State League in triples. He was second among league outfielders with 21 assists and first with 323 putouts but also led with 22 errors for a below-average fielding percentage of .940. He went into the history books for trivia though, as on July 19, he was pinch-hit for by 12-year-old batboy Joe Reliford, who became the younger player in Organized Baseball history.
