 Biographical Information
From July 31, 1943 through May 6, 1946 Ray Mueller caught every game for the Cincinnati Reds except for the 1945 season, which he missed due to his Army service during World War II. Mueller had entered the Army in February 1945 and was discharged in December. Mueller's streak reached 233 games, destroying the old National League record of 133 set by George Gibson for the 1909 Pirates. Ray Lamanno replaced Mueller on May 7. Mueller would have had the new Major League Baseball record but Frankie Hayes had started a streak later in 1943 and ended it earlier in 1946 - but had not missed time due to war, so Hayes wound up with the new MLB mark, 312 games.
