Despite being wanted by the St. Louis Browns as well as Columbus (managed by Joe Tinker), Ray Demmitt retired to do farm work in 1920. He did sign up to play in an industrial league in Illinois. One of his teammates there was George Halas while his manager was Joe McGinnity.
