Randy Smith

Randy Smith was the Scouting Director of the San Diego Padres from 1989 to 1991. He began 1993 as assistant GM of the Colorado Rockies, but returned to the Padres in June as General Manager from 1993 to 1995. Shortly after being named GM he was forced to put the team through a Fire Sale. He held the same post for the Detroit Tigers from 1996 to 2001. Smith returned to the Padres yet again in 2003 as a special assistant to the GM. In 2011, he is the Vice President, Player Development & International Scouting for the Padres.

Smith is the son of former Houston Astros and New York Yankees GM Tal Smith
