Randy Schwartz, an All-American at UCLA, was signed in 1965 and came to the majors that same year at age 21. He had 18 major league at-bats and played first base. The regular first baseman at the time for the Kansas City Athletics was Ken Harrelson.
He was at UCLA at the same time as Gail Hopkins and Bobby Floyd. Schwartz was one of a number of youngsters on the A's, including Rick Monday (two years younger), Catfish Hunter (two years younger), Blue Moon Odom (one year younger) and Sal Bando (same age).
