[edit] Biographical Information
Randy Reese played four seasons for the New York Giants in the lively ball era. Although he played more outfield than any other one position, he played more infield as a whole than outfield. He had 84 games at third base, 81 in left field, 70 at second base, and between 8 and 26 games at center field, right field, shortstop and first base.
His best year with the bat was 1928, when he hit .308. Mel Ott hit .322 that year (at age 19), Lefty O'Doul hit .319, Bill Terry hit .326, Freddie Lindstrom hit .358, and Shanty Hogan hit .333.
He is one of five players from Vanderbilt University to get over 1,000 hits in the majors through 2006.
Reese collected 2,124 minor league hits between 1925 and 1942 with 416 2B, 196 SB, and a .314 average. He also led the 1934 Southern Association with 108 RBI. Reese managed the 1940 Greenville Buckshots.
