[edit] Biographical Information
Most relievers tend to move from team to team, but Randy Moffitt was a key reliever for the San Francisco Giants for a decade. He recorded 96 saves in an era where relievers notched fewer saves than they do today. He is also in the top hundred pitchers for Games Finished in a career. From 1973 to 1978, he saved at least 10 games per season, and was again in double figures in 1983, his final year in the majors. Prior to coming to the majors he pitched at Fresno and Phoenix.
Toward the end of his decade with the Giants, he came down with a rare stomach infection that caused him to miss a lot of the 1980 and 1981 seasons. He recovered and closed out his career pitching fairly well for the Houston Astros in 1982 and Toronto Blue Jays in 1983.
He is the brother of tennis legend Billie Jean King and the son of Milwaukee Brewers scout Bill Moffitt.
His main teammates included Jim Barr (886), Gary Matthews Sr. (873), Chris Speier (682) and Bobby Bonds (648).
