Ramon Pena has been a long-time scout.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Pena moved to New York as a kid. He played baseball in high school and college. The 2011 Indians Media Guide says that he played two seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm chain but no one named Pena or Ramon Pena was in the Buc system at that time. He was a scout for the Kansas City Royals for four years, signing Melido Perez and Jose Nunez. From 1985-2006, he worked for the Detroit Tigers as a scout, signing Danny Bautista, Bobby Higginson, Francisco Cordero, Jose Lima, Fernando Rodney, Ramon Santiago, Omar Infante, Frank Catalanotto, Eulogio de la Cruz, Guillermo Moscoso, Randor Bierd, Gorkys Hernandez, Wilkin Ramírez, Audy Ciriaco and Ramon Garcia. From 2007-2009, he was Special Assistant to the General Manager of the New York Mets. He then moved to the Cleveland Indians as Director of Latin American Operations.
