[edit] Biographical Information
Ralph Hodgin played outfield and third base in a six-year major league career, achieving his biggest success in 1943 when his batting average of .315 was third in the league and his slugging percentage of .415 was seventh.
In both 1941 and 1942 he was drafted from San Francisco in the PCL.
Hodgin entered the Army in February 1945 and was discharged in December 1945. Unlike many wartime players, he succeeded in playing after the war, playing from 1946-48 and hitting .294 in 1947.
A 2006 article in the Greensboro News-Record indicates that Hodgin, at age 91, still lived in Greensboro, as did Red Hayworth. Hodgin played for Sacramento for three years after his major league career, and also managed Reidsville for several years. Then he worked for a Greensboro trucking company for 30 years. article
