Rac Slider was a minor league shortstop. He played more than a decade of pro ball, missing the entire 1957 season due to military service. In 1965, he took over as manager of the Harlan Red Sox in the Appalachian League for the Boston Red Sox. He would manage in their chain for the next 21 years. Slider was then a Boston Red Sox coach from 1987 to 1990. In 21 years of managing, his teams were 1275-1405.
