R.J. Harrison was drafted in the 23rd round of the 1975 amateur draft. He played two seasons as a catcher then converted to pitching and played 3 more seasons. After retiring, Harrison scouted for the Seattle Mariners in 1979-1980.
After managing in the minors for 6 seasons, Harrison was a scout for the Mariners (1988-1990), California Angels (1991), New York Mets (1992-1993), Anaheim Angels (1994), and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1995 to 2004, was assistant scouting director in 2005 and has been director of scouting since 2005.
