The Puerto Mexico Charros replaced the Puerto Mexico Portenos in the Mexican Southeast League in 1969. Managed by Minnie Miñoso their first year, they were 4th in six-team loop at 56-59. They drew 55,414 fans, good for third. The most prominent player to emerge from the club was Max León (9-10, 2.74), who was only their third-best hurler but would be in the majors in four years. In 1970, they were 33-20-1 to finish first in the first half then were 26-23 in the second half. In the finals, they beat the second-half champion Campeche Pirates 4 games to 0. They still finished last in attendance (down to only 9,503). They outscored opponents, 437-345. While they had no league leaders in major stats, they had 5 of the top 10 in average and dominated the All-Star team with six players: C Alfonso Jackson (.287/.338/.384), 1B Jaime López (.326/.373/.393), 2B Teodoro Flores (.316/.366/.369), 3B Carlos Osuna (.284/.342/.411), OF David Ochoa (.284/.337/.476) and OF Mario Salazar (.291/.344/.381). Ramon Valenzuela (9-6, 1.98) was second in the MSL in ERA. Jorge Orta also hit .303 in 18 games and would go on to a long major league career.
