Providence College sponsored baseball from 1921 to 1999. The team was a District I Independents in 1956-1974 and a Division-I Independent in 1975. The team also competed in the Big East Conference from 1985 to 1999, when baseball was dropped. The other Friars teams still compete in the Big East.
