The Providence Chiefs played two years in the New England League, joining when the league was revived after World War II. In their first season, they went 64-60, sixth in the 8-team league. They were outscored 664-661 overall.
No pitcher stood out, while three hitters topped .300 - 3B Alex Suss (.325/~.408/.447), 1B Art Mahan (.305/~.400/.459) and OF Ray Cote (.320/~.398/.448).
In 1947, Providence briefly boasted a future big-league regular, Dale Long (.286, 2 HR, 7 RBI). Pete Shurman hit .299 with 24 HR and 84 RBI to pace the offense.
