The first major league baseball team from the present-day Pittsburgh, PA area was located in the city of Allegheny, PA, which was later annexed to Pittsburgh and is now called the North Side. Prominent players for the team included Ed Swartwood, Ed Morris, Fred Carroll and Doggie Miller. In 1891 the club took on their present name as the Pittsburgh Pirates.
