Of the 35 pitchers, 32 pitched a complete game no-hitter. Ruth and Shore combined for a no-hitter, the only one of either of their careers. Flanagan's no-hitter came as a reliever, when he pitched just one inning.
The youngest three were Wood (22), Verlander (24) and Tesreau (24). Wood and Tesreau both started Game 1 of the 1912 World Series, having previously pitched a no-hitter. The oldest to be added to the list was Flanagan, followed by Maglie and then Spahn: all were 39.
Christy Mathewson, Allie Reynolds, Warren Spahn and Ken Holtzman are the only pitchers with at least two of both: no-hitters and World Series Game 1 starts.
Cy Young, Sandy Koufax and David Wells are the only pitchers who have pitched a perfect game and started Game 1 of a World Series.
