Right-hander Pinky Woods Was signed as an amateur free agent by the Boston Red Sox before the 1941 season and pitched thirteen seasons (1941-1953), in professional baseball.
Woods spent a little more then two years of his first seasons in the minors, breaking dead even with a 23-23 record and made his major league debut with the Red Sox on June 20, 1943. Woods stayed with the Fenway Park club for most of three seasons, pitching his last game on September 23, 1945. In his time in the big leagues Pinky would win 13 and lose 21 with a 3.97 ERA, while appearing in 85 games.
Woods would spend the rest of his eight years (1946-1953) in the minor leagues, two of those seasons with the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association, where he again broke even with an 8-8 record, appearing in 42 games and pitching 199 innings.
After this run Pinky would spend the next seven seasons (1947-1953), with the Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League. Woods was a double-digit winner six of those seven years, with his best numbers coming in 1949 when he tied for the league lead with 23 wins and helped lead his team to the PCL Championship and play-off titles.
Woods left the game during the 1953 year with an eleven season minor league record of 115-103 and a 3.99 ERA, while appearing in 318 games and pitching 1,754.2 innings.
After baseball Woods stayed in the West Coast area and died on October 29, 1982 in Los Angeles, CA. George Rowland Woods was 62 years of age.
