The San Francisco Seals were displaced to Phoenix when the New York Giants moved to the left coast. The Phoenix Giants moved to Tacoma, becoming the Tacoma Giants from 1960-1965, then moved back. In 1986, the Giants became the Phoenix Firebirds.

Phoenix won the PCL championship in its inaugural campaign of 1958, and won its only other in 1977. Alejandro Sanchez was PCL MVP in 1984.
