The Petroleros de Poza Rica (based in Poza Rica, Veracruz) have been members of the Mexican League on and off since 1958. They were absent from 1984-1995 and 1998-2005. The team won their only pennant in 1959 behind the bat of Aldo Salvent (.317/~.401/.568, 29 HR to tie for the league lead, 16 SB), the pitching of Roberto Vargas (13-3, a league-best 2.55) and the fine two-way play of Diomedes Olivo (21-8, 3.02, tied for the league lead in wins and a .269 average with 5 homers at the plate). They played their home games in Estadio General Heriberto Jara Corona in 2006 but a dispute with the Oil Workers Union, the stadium's owners, led to the club moving mid-season to Cordoba, Veracruz where they became the Cafeteros de Cordoba.
