Pete Van Wieren began his broadcasting career with the Atlanta Braves in 1976 along with partner Skip Caray. Van Wieren is affectionately known as "The Professor" for his pre-game preparedness and baseball research abilities.

Inducted into the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame in 2004 (along with Caray) joining an impressive list in Braves history that already included Hank Aaron, Lew Burdette, Del Crandall, Tommy Holmes, Ernie Johnson, Eddie Mathews, Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Kid Nichols, Ted Turner, Johnny Sain and Warren Spahn.

An eight-time winner of the Georgia Sportscaster of the Year Award from the National Sportswriters & Sportscasters Association, Van Wieren served as play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Hawks from 1991-1994. Since joining TBS Sports in 1975, he has covered the Atlanta Flames of the National Hockey League, the Hawks and Atlanta Falcons NFL preseason football.

Pete Van Wieren announced his retirement from the Braves booth after the 2008 season.
