[edit] Biographical Information

Pete Coscarart played eight seasons in the major leagues, all with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. A regular in 1939-40 with the Dodgers, he continued as a regular with the Pirates in 1942-45.

Brother of Joe Coscarart and Stephen E. Coscarart minor league infielder.

Coscarat went to Escondido High School, where the ball field is now named after him. He was the first major leaguer out of San Diego State University, and after his major league days played for the Padres in 1946-49.

The book The Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1940's states that Coscarart lost his major league because he was outspoken for a players' union. After baseball he worked in real estate for thirty years. In 1996 he and many other former players sued major league baseball to be included in the pension, which did not cover players before 1947.

He said his father was Basque.
