[edit] Biographical Information

Outfielder Pete Compton played six seasons in the majors and hit .307 during the course of a twenty year minor league career.

He was born in San Marcos, TX, and Sporting Life once called him "a good-natured, easy-going Texan". His baseball career took him to many of the big cities in the country: Kansas City, Miami, Louisville, New Orleans, Seattle, Los Angeles, Houston, Sacramento and Fort Worth - and that was just in the minors.

He jumped to the Federal League in 1915, but spent more of that season in the National League. In his best major league season, at age 22, he was the youngest regular for the 1912 St. Louis Browns, hitting .280 on a team which hit .248.

It is no surprise that he is the only major leaguer whose real first name is Anna.
