Pep Deininger was originally a pitcher when he came to the majors in 1902. Later, when he returned in 1908 and 1909, he was primarily an outfielder.
Another player born in Germany, Bill Miller, also made his debut in 1902. He was with Toledo in 1904.
Deininger had most of his at-bats with the 1909 Philadelphia Phillies, hitting .260 on a team that hit .244 (in a league that also hit .244). In 1910, he led the Eastern League in RBI while playing for Jersey City, with whom he also played in 1911.
He was on the Board of Directors of the Baseball Players Fraternity in 1914, with his location listed as Montreal. Ty Cobb, Max Carey, Sam Crawford and Fred Merkle, among others, were also on the board.
