[edit] Biographical Information

Dibut was the first player to go from the organized Negro leagues to the majors. While some Cuban players had played for teams identified as Negro in the pre-league era, Dibut was the first to play for teams in both white and black major leagues.

After going 7-8 with a 4.05 ERA for the Cuban Stars of the Negro National League in 1923, he signed with the Reds. He was 3-0 with a 2.21 ERA in his brief big-league career, far better than he had done in the "inferior" Negro Leagues.

He is a member of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame.

Through 2006, only two other major leaguers have been born in Cienfuegos - Jose Tartabull and Joe Azcue.
