Shortstop Peahead Walker played in the minor leagues in 1921 and from 1923 to 1932, hitting .300 with 1,270 hits in 1,078 games. He hit over .320 four times, with a high of .338 in 1928 with the York White Roses.
He managed the Snow Hill Billies from 1937 to 1939, leading them to the playoffs twice and to one league championship victory.
Following his playing career, he became a prolific football coach - he headed the collegiate Atlantic Christian College, Elon College and Wake Forest University squads as well as the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. While at Elon, he also coached their baseball and basketball teams.
