Pitcher Pat Underwood was selected by the Detroit Tigers as the second overall pick in the 1976 amateur draft. He made his major league debut on May 31, 1979, pitching against his brother Tom Underwood of the Toronto Blue Jays. Pat pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win. He retired as a player in 1985 due to an elbow injury and was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

His father John Underwood also played minor league baseball.
