Pat Tobin played Baseball for the BB39 USS Arizona, a Battleship in the US Navy in the late 1930's. Games were played with other Battleship's such as the USS California, USS Nevada, USS Maryland, USS Texas, USS Idaho, USS West Virginia, USS Oklahoma, USS Tennessee, USS Mississippi, USS Pennsylvania, USS New Mexico, and USS Colorado.
OUT NAVY, a magazine published for Sailors at the time had numerous stories of the "big Arizona ace's tremendous power and speed that has so impressed his manager, Glenn Wright, an old Pittsburgh Pirate stating that with proper handling Pat will become a great hurler in the Big Leagues".
