Patrick T. Murphy


In 1983, Murphy was 1-5 5.50 ERA in 6 starts and 22 relief appearances for the Salem Redbirds in the San Diego Padres chain. He struck out 63 in 88 IP, but walked 44.

In 1985, Murphy was 5-5 5.32 ERA for the indepedent Tri-Cities Triplets of the Northwest League, leading the team in IP. He was tied for second on the team in wins. In 1986 the Triplets were a co-op team and Murphy was named player/manager. Murphy only relieved in 7 games, getting one win and one save, posting a 2.25 ERA in 12 IP.

Murphy was the head baseball coach at Maryville College in 1983, and assistant football coach. He was an assistant at his alma-mater in 1984-1985, then was the head coach at Claremont-Mudd Scripps in 1986-1987. Murphy then moved to the University of Notre Dame from 1988 to 1994. In 1995, Murphy moved to Arizona State University replacing Jim Brock and he has a record of 480-242-1 in 12 seasons at ASU.
