[edit] Biographical Information
Pat Hannivan played 10 games for Brooklyn in 1897. He also played in the minors for teams such as Providence, Pawtucket and Toronto.
"Hannivan's Case" made news in Sporting Life of March 28, 1896. Hannivan argued that he wasn't bound to play for Pawtucket as a contract wasn't received by him (although it was sent and came back in the mail without having gotten to him). Sporting Life was sure he would end up playing for Pawtucket, and indeed he did.
" 'Jimmie' Hannivan is a big batsman, hitting either left or right handed, but anyone expecting to find a large fielding average opposite his name will find himself mistaken. 'Jim' does not play for an average, but goes for anything and everything, and often fields out batsmen on almost impossible chances." - Sporting Life's Pawtucket correspondent, in the Dec. 26, 1896 issue
