[edit] Biographical Information
Outfielder-pitcher Pat Carney played four seasons in the big leagues. In his best year as a hitter, 1902, he hit .270 (the team hit .249) and in his best year as a pitcher, 1903, he went 4-5 for a team whose overall record was 58-80. Teammate Vic Willis was 12-18 that year.
Pat also played outfield and pitched in the minors. He had attended College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and he played for the Worcester minor league team in 1900-01.
Carney was the head coach at his alma mater from 1906 to 1909: the most notable player there at the time (1906-07) was Jack Barry, who became part of the $100,000 infield and later coached at Holy Cross himself.
Pat became a doctor (hence the nickname "Doc") and practiced for decades. He was the team physician for the Holy Cross teams and the house doctor for the college.
