[edit] Biographical Information

The only major league ballplayer ever to come out of Emory University, Parson Perryman may have been given his nickname because Emory was originally named after a bishop and Perryman may have studied religion there. He is a member of the Emory Sports Hall of Fame.

He was two years younger than Ty Cobb, another player born in Georgia who came to the American League, although Cobb had played for many years by the time Perryman arrived in the major leagues.

He matched up against pitcher Babe Ruth on June 17, 1915.
