Thomas "Parson" Nicholson played in the majors in 1888, 1890 and 1895. He was the regular second baseman for the 1890 Toledo Maumees which finished 68-64.
Nicholson was born in Blaine, OH, in far-eastern Ohio near Wheeling, WV. He played for Wheeling and a minor-league St. Louis team during part of 1888, and came to the majors for 24 games with the 1888 Detroit Wolverines, a team which featured the famous Big Four. Nicholson showed good power, posting a higher slugging percentage than most of the team regulars.
In 1889 he played for the minor-league Toledo team, and then in 1890 when it became a major-league team, he came along. It was not in the majors in 1891, and Nicholson played for Sioux City. He played for various minor league teams through 1899, coming back briefly to the majors in 1895. Among the teams he played for in the minors were Detroit (parts of 1895-97) and Kansas City (parts of 1897-98).
He was player-manager for Wheeling in 1899.
He died in 1917 in Bellaire, OH, a few miles from where he was born.
According to a genealogical post by his great-grandson, Nicholson had a successful shoe-repair business and was at one time mayor of Bellaire.
