[edit] Biographical Information
Clarence "Pants" Rowland was a minor league catcher who never made the major leagues as a player. After managing various teams in the Three-I League from 1911 to 1914 and the Chicago White Sox in 1915-1918, he was manager and part owner of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1919.
He was an American League umpire from 1923 to 1927. Next Rowland Scouted for the Cincinnati Reds (1929-1930) and Chicago Cubs (1933-1941.
He was named GM of the Los Angeles Angels, and was named Minor League Executive of the Year in 1943.
Rowland was president of the Pacific Coast League from 1944-1954, during which time he pushed for the American League and National League to recognize the PCL as a third major league.
Rowland was vice president of the Chicago Cubs in 1954-1955 and 1959.
