P. J. Walters made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on April 17, 2009, as the starting pitcher facing the Chicago Cubs; he gave up 3 runs in 4 innings but was not involved in the decision. He had been recalled from the minors a day earlier when Chris Carpenter was placed on the disabled list.
