Oxford, Ohio is the home of Miami University and is located about thirty-five miles from Cincinnati, and thirteen miles from Hamilton, Ohio. Oxford has seen 19 Major League players pass through Miami including: Bill Doran, Jack Baldschun, Tim Naehring, Jack Baldschun and Charlie Leibrandt. Hall of Fame Dodger Manager Walter Alston also played for Miami University and eventualy settled outside of Oxford, where he was freqeuntly seen around town. Alston died in Oxford on October 1, 1964. State road, OH-127, has been named the "Walter 'Smokey' Alston Highway." There is a monument to Alston in Somerville, Ohio.
Kason Gabbard was the first major league player to be born in Oxford, debuting in 2006.
Oxford is also the home of Talawanda High School which saw its first student drafted in 2003. Keith Weiser was picked in the 18th round of the 2003 Draft by the Atlanta Braves. Currently (2007), Keith is pitching in the Colorada farm system.
