You have to wonder what else Ovid Nicholson could have done to win a job with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1912. He hit .455 during six games for the team, and made eight putouts with no errors during his time in left field.
Unfortunately, the regular left fielder at the time was Max Carey, and the other two outfielders also hit well that season.
Nicholson hit over .300 several times in the minors, with a high of .315 for Wichita in 1913. He spent parts of 1913-15 with Wichita. He also managed several seasons in the minors.
One source refers to him playing for Frankfort in 1912, and leading the team to a pennant. He and Ollie Gfroerer were called "the Double-O's".
The Sporting Life of March 24, 1917 indicates that Nicholson was leading the league in stolen bases the previous season while playing for Hannibal when he suffered an injury that put him out of action.
