[edit] Biographical Information

Chicagoan Otto Jacobs played a lot in the summer months in 1918, appearing in 29 games for the 1918 White Sox. The regular catcher on the pennant-winning White Sox teams in 1917 and 1919 was Ray Schalk, while the backup each of those years was Birdie Lynn. In 1918, however, both Schalk and Lynn appeared in fewer games than normal, leaving space for Jacobs to become the most-used backup that season. The next year - the Black Sox year - he was no longer on the team.

In 1915 he played for Rockford in the Three-I League, leading the league in homers. He also appeared at least once on a semi-pro team called the Joliet Standards, according to "The Best Pitcher in Baseball: The Life of Rube Foster".

His 1918 season was apparently cut short by the "Work or Fight" rule.

In addition to playing for the White Sox in 1918, he apparently was manager part of the season in the Western League (presumably a player-manager).
