In 2008, a group of investors bought the floundering Midwest Sliders of the Frontier League with the aim of moving the road team into a permanent home in Oakland County, in the northern suburbs of Detroit, MI. In the absence of a stadium to host them in Oakland County, the Sliders played the 2009 season in Ypsilanti, MI. They are scheduled to move into a purpose-built stadium in Waterford, MI in 2010, with a name and logo that evokes the glory days of the American automobile industry.
