Norberto Martin was signed as a free agent by the Chicago White Sox in 1984, and made it to the majors with them in 1993, hitting .357 in 8 games. Although the White Sox were the best team in the division in 1993 and 1994, Martin managed to make the team as a backup player, and had peaks of performance in 1996 when he hit .350 and 1997 when he hit .300.
In addition to his major league career, he played 15 years in the minors.
Martin's first career home run was a grand slam on June 4, 1994 as a member of the White Sox against the Baltimore Orioles. Jim Poole was the pitcher.
He became a free agent after the 1997 season, and was given the Anaheim Angels's starting second base job out of spring training in 1998, but was ineffective and lost his job to Justin Baughman. In spite of that, he appeared in 79 games that year, the most of his career.
He is currently (January 2009) listed as an instructor for Grand Slam USA of Raleigh, NC [1] That company's site says he is the infield coordinator for the minor league organization of the Milwaukee Brewers.
