Ninety Six, SC
From BR Bullpen
Ninety Six is a small town in western South Carolina, located 5 miles west of Greenwood, SC. The town, founded in the 18th century as a trading post with the Cherokee Indians, moved two miles from its original site in the mid-19th century in order to be located on the railway; the original town is now a national historical site. Bill Voiselle lived in Ninety Six - the name is meant to express the distance in miles from the main Cherokee settlement - and wore number 96 in tribute to the town.
