Nick Bucci made his pro debut in 2008. He had pitched for the Canadian junior national team before being picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th round of the 2008 amateur draft. In his debut with the AZL Brewers, he struck out 14 in 11 innings but went 0-3 with a 7.36 ERA. In 2009, he went 6-3 with a 4.41 ERA in 13 games for the sub-.500 Helena Brewers, showing some promise. He was then put on Canada's roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
