Nicaragua is a country located in Central America. Their national team has never won a major tournament, although Nicaragua won the gold medal in baseball of a minor event, the 1st Ocean Pacific Games held in Colombia in 1995 (US, Taiwan, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador participated), they have also won several silver medals:

Owing to economic problems, organized league baseball has had a checkered history in Nicaragua.

  • The Liga Nicaragüense de Beisbol Profesional originally operated from 1957 through 1967. This was regarded as one of the "golden ages" for the sport in Nicaragua. Even during this era, though, the 1960-61 season was not held and the 1961-62 campaign only took place in combination with two teams from Panama.
  • The Nicaraguan Amateur League or "Liga Nica" was organized in 1970, thanks to Carlos García, one of the great organizers in Nicaraguan baseball history. A lack of funds forced some of the teams to quit, though, and when the league folded in 2004, there were only six teams left.
  • The LNBP was revived in 2004 but suspended play in 2008 amid chaotic conditions. Another revival is scheduled for the winter of 2009-10.
