In the initial 1888 Central League season the Newark Trunkmakers won the league championship with an 83 win and 23 loss season record for a .783 winning percentage. Christopher Meisel was the team manager. John Crogan of Newark led the league with a .355 BA, 158 hits and 116 runs scored. They were located in Newark, NJ.
